Kalampaka stands sentinel beside the towering, sacred cliffs of Meteora, while the Pineios River meanders alongside. Once known as “Eginio,” this ancient settlement has been inhabited since time immemorial. Welcoming over 2,000,000 visitors annually, it remains a beacon of history and culture.
Adjacent to Kalambaka lies the enchanting village of Kastraki, nestled at the foot of the colossal Meteora rocks. These majestic monoliths, some towering up to 400 meters, stand as a testament to nature’s grandeur. Encompassing an area of roughly thirty square kilometers, they epitomize a geological wonder.
In 1989, UNESCO bestowed upon Meteora the prestigious title of UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its dual significance as both a cultural treasure and a natural marvel of unparalleled importance.
